Free Medical Camp in Veerpur Khurd Area
December 12, 2017
The Divine Shakti Foundation’s Free Medical Care Camp was held the last two weeks in the Veerpur Khurd area. The team spent the day evaluating and caring for the Rishikumar (students), who are currently studying at the ashram, they also treated and cared for many locals from around the region.
Rishikumar were evaluated for growth parameters, medical history, and allergies. Each underwent a general physical examination, and a directed exam related to any particular health concerns. The boys were found to be in very good health overall. There were some mild issues such as headaches, digestive complaints and skin conditions that were addressed, as well as recommendations for improved #WASH, dental care and treatment. Medications were given to or arranged for those that needed them. Follow up evaluation will take place in 2 weeks, and future evaluations and growth parameters will be followed on a yearly basis.
The sevaks (volunteers) who were fortunate to serve in the camp the last two Sundays were Irene, Rekka and June from the US, Jane from London, along with Maria, from Columbia, who helped to register the students, take their heights, weights and blood pressures the first week and Vandana from Parmarth Niketan the second week. Elke, a sevak returning from Germany, led the Rishikumars in an animated yoga session while awaiting their medical evaluations. David, also from the U.S., did energy healing visits for those with specific musculoskeletal complaints the first week. The camp was led by
Dr Priya Singh, from Parmarth Niketan and Dr. Gina Jansheski – a pediatrician from the US.
The weekly camps are conceived and inspired by Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, Founder of DSF, President of Parmarth Niketan, and are continuously supported by the dedicated leadership of Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatii, President of DSF.
