The Gift of Hearing

Divine Shakti Foundation came to the aid of hearing impaired Meena Devi. Meena hails from the village of Mala, 39 km from Parmarth. Meena’s lack of hearing came to our knowledge when she came to one of DSF/Parmarth’s weekly free medical camps and was unable to communicate her health problem.

Meena had had no hearing problem till 8 years ago when she had an ear infection that did not get treated due to unavailability of medical facilities in her village of Mala.

Audiology tests confirmed that Meena’s hearing was impaired. DSF thus arranged an appointment for Meena with Dr SS Bist, Professor and Head of ENT Dept at Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (Dehradun).

After trying different models, we finally settled on Aries 675 BTE Digital Hearing Aid. This means that Meena can by switch of a button adjust to the different sounds. She was initially overwhelmed by the different sounds, but was advised by the technicians that this was normal in the beginning, and in due course she will get used to the sounds and lead a very normal life!
